I have always enjoyed working with older adults and enjoy hearing about their life experiences. Throughout the years, I have specifically done research and taken many units of training related to older adults. A few years ago, I worked on a book with a colleague regarding the journey of aging. Lastly, I am an older adult myself, so I live with many of the challenges that my clients are facing.
It is my understanding that research has proven that online therapy can be equally effective as in-person therapy. The convenience of online therapy is a great help to many of my clients, who may be living with challenges involving health, mobility, or transportation issues. Sometimes, as older individuals, our time is taken up by more and more appointments. Being able to have those appointments at home via telehealth is a great advantage and time saver.
My training was varied, including working in outpatient and inpatient facilities, and even a county jail. When I became licensed, I worked in a counseling Center in Central California where individuals came from around the world to receive intensive counseling services ranging from three months to a year. This rich exposure to different cultures has proven to be invaluable. After a number of years, I opened my own practice. During that time, I gained training in EMDR therapy, and learned how to deal with individuals who have experienced trauma. I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in both California and Arizona. As an Arizona resident, I have become a member of PsyPact, and have Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT), which has broadened my practice to include 39 states.
In my sessions I focus on using evidence-based techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR in order to help my clients improve their functioning. I often work with clients to address depression, anxiety, and trauma, and my counseling style is tailored to the issue at hand. Although I have a specialty in the integration of psychology and the Christian faith, I only enter that area if the client requests it. Many of my clients have said that I have a warm and accepting style as a therapist, and that they have been helped with their presenting issues. I take the time to address my clients’ questions and concerns. For me, it is an honor to be part of the healing process.
