I love what I do and the individuals with whom I am honored to work. More specifically, seniors represent a lifetime of greatly varied and rich experiences, both good and bad. As I get to know my clients and hear their stories, I help them uncover their strengths, discover their inherent value, and help them develop new perspectives, strategies, and use scientifically proven treatments to overcome challenges. It never ceases to amaze me how seniors face and conquer issues with as much or more success than any age group with whom I have ever worked.
I began using online therapy approximately 13 years ago when working with vets located at satellite VA offices. Online therapy again become a necessity during the COVID lockdowns. During COVID, I conducted online therapy with the elderly in nursing homes, during a time the residents were isolated from their loved ones and alone.
Specific to seniors, online therapy provides them with the convenience, privacy, and comfort of being in their own homes or places of their choosing, rather than having to commute and endure the awkwardness of a therapist’s waiting room. Perhaps most importantly, research has demonstrated online therapy to be as effective as in-person therapy for all age ranges, including seniors.

I became interested in geriatric psychology when my parents began the aging process. They needed more support in their daily care due to increasing health concerns. When it became apparent they could no longer live independently, I had to make the incredibly difficult decision to move them into a nursing facility. It was during this time I realized there was an incredible need for mental health services for seniors.
As a psychologist, I have worked with seniors in independent living, assisted living, and in nursing homes. Most recently, I was the sole provider of psychological services to independent living residents in one the largest senior living communities in the United States. I have worked with a diverse range of clients in terms of age (50 to 106 years of age), race, ethnicity, social economic status, and presenting mental health concerns.
As a psychologist, I use scientifically validated treatments to reduce mental health symptoms. More broadly though, I flex my therapeutic approach to fit the presenting concerns, context, personality, world view, and aspirations of my clients. I help my clients discover and leverage their strengths, help individuals recognize their value as human beings, and help them gain confidence needed to achieve their goals. I frequently ask my clients for feedback regarding their therapy experience. This is predominant feedback I receive: “I can tell you care”, “You listen to me”, “You don’t judge me”, “You help me see things from different, more helpful perspectives.”
