As my life has progressed, and I have gotten older, I have developed a real appreciation for the senior population. They have life experiences and insights that I think are invaluable.
I have worked with some seniors in long-term counseling, which would be six months or more. In that time with my clients, we have developed a pretty meaningful and significant relationship. I think I have helped clients navigate some very difficult situations in life, including the loss of a loved ones and debilitating physical health. I have been a companion in their journey, and hopefully have provided them with some compassion and peace.
Primarily, I used cognitive behavioral therapy. But I also stick to the basics, which includes listening, providing empathy and Support and insights. I believe the human connection is essential.
