Since graduating from the School of Social Work at the University of South Carolina in 1981, I have been working in various fields of social work, dedicated to a variety of trauma-informed, cognitive-behavioral, and mindful therapeutic approaches. I am licensed in South Carolina and have obtained certification in trauma-informed approaches including Cognitive Processing Therapy and functional nutritional approaches to physical and mental health. I am certified in Plant-Based Nutrition and Organic, Living Food, Plant-Based Nutrition, and Hippocrates LifestyleMedicine Coach of Hippocrates Health Institute. For the past 4 years, I was a clinical supervisor and consultant with JusticeWorks Behavioral Care in South Carolina as well as a private clinical therapist. My current role as a therapist on TotalLife.com enables me to focus on my passion to support older adults and that’s important to me because it provides yet another opportunity for healing, self-awareness, and emotional support in maneuvering life’s challenges while providing appreciation gained through lived experience.
About I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 40 years of experience focusing on a range of therapeutic approaches that enable individuals to access their internal strengths and resilience in navigating life’s challenges. My experience also includes working with individuals struggling with anxiety. Depression, adjustment to life changes, grief, loss, LGBTQ+ related issues, and those experiencing PTSD. In my sessions, I focus on using evidence-based techniques using a holistic, multidimensional, and client-directed approach. Areas of focus for improved well-being and happiness may include specific interventions to enhance the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual parts of oneself. My counseling style is a Cognitive Behavioral Therapeutic approach, as the foundation of my model of treatment, focusing on identifying and shifting negative thinking patterns that don’t serve us well and not only create our internal struggles but negatively impact our outcomes in life. I am a certified provider of Cognitive Processing Therapy, a specific evidence-based trauma-informed intervention designed to relieve PTSD symptoms. In addition to these cognitive approaches, mindfulness and functional nutrition are also areas of consideration toward a holistic plan for optimum mental and physical health. My clients report relief from symptoms of depression and anxiety appreciating the time they devote to themselves and their pursuit of happiness. In my spare time, I love to garden and expand my knowledge of nutritional approaches to improve mental health and develop whole food plant-based recipes and meals. My favorite quote is “Be the Change You Wish to See in the World” by Mahatma Gandhi because change begins with each of us, our thoughts, and our intentions in creating the inner and outer world and experiences we desire.
