My interest in working with seniors began in graduate school. My graduate thesis was on older adults and their relationships with their daughters. The process was enlightening and encouraging for me to understand and support a population that may be ignored.

My objective working with older adults is to create a safe and supportive environment where clients can share the full range of their feelings and thoughts without fear of judgment. My areas of interest and specialty include life transitions, loss, stress, anxiety, trauma, and relationship difficulties.

Psychotherapy offers us an opportunity to better understand ourselves and to create important and meaningful changes in our lives. It also offers an effective way to address questions and feelings that we may find confusing or painful. I approach this work with empathy, warmth, curiosity, and a collaborative spirit. I tailor my approach to the needs of each client, offering both the opportunity to reflect and explore as well as down-to-earth, practical tools to address difficult feelings or behaviors.

As a licensed clinical social worker I have worked with numerous populations, older adults, dialysis adults, children, adolescents, and families. In addition, I have different experiences working in community-based outpatient agencies, medical facilities, home based services, homeless populations, and detained children. I am an eclectic therapist who can help clients with painful experiences.

Approximately 25 years ago I volunteered at a domestic violence center in my community. I worked primarily with victims of domestic violence and found that the experience had a profound effect on my understanding of interpersonal relationships. I was motivated to learn and applied to graduate school, worked as an intern at a major local hospital and became a psychotherapist.

My experience with seniors as an older adult is to provide an understanding, about challenges and transitions that seniors face in their personal and family lives. My personal experience with older adults has allowed me to be empathetic and have a caring perspective.

My approach to therapy is to use a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach. The concept of CBT helps seniors to manage their emotions in a healthy way. This includes using mindfulness tools, regulating emotions, and learning to better tolerate stress. It also involves living with intention.
