Somehow, society has made aging synonymous with a lack of excitement or purpose, a view propagated by a culture consumed with an anti-aging mindset and ageist stereotypes. I enjoy helping individuals navigate the inevitable aspects of aging, such as loss, health issues, and life transitions, by exploring their rich life experiences and wisdom, while also celebrating their resilience and strengths.
Much of my career has been fueled by a desire to offer a supportive space where older adults can explore their thoughts, emotions, and memories, helping them find peace, purpose, and joy in their later years. I believe that increasing access and flexibility to services fosters a sense of independence and autonomy, enabling individuals to take an active role in managing their mental health. Fortunately, technology helps remove common barriers to seeking support by eliminating the need for transportation, reducing anxiety through participating in treatment in the comfort and safety of one’s home, and ensuring continuity of care for those who travel often or move residences.
I completed my doctoral training at Carlos Albizu University in Miami, Florida, with an emphasis in neuropsychology. I went on to complete my internship and post-doctoral residency with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in rehabilitation and neuropsychology. My career has consisted of neuropsychological assessment to assess for dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases, and individual psychotherapy provided to adults who are adjusting to life-changes such as grief and loss, functional decline, and medical conditions impacting day-to-day living.
