Learn more about Angela

I enjoy working with people in all stages of life to address stressors, manage emotions and navigate relationships. With our senior population there are many unseen and unvalidated adjustments to lifestyle and functioning that do not come with a built-in support system. Thus, many are left to fend for themselves in a time when they are most in need of being heard and obtaining support to help sort out very complex social and emotional concerns. I want to make sure that no one has to face these challenges alone. I am honored to be allowed to support those that have contributed so much, to be able to assist with adjustment as people navigate the challenges that come with their golden years, and to assist clients in identifying and working toward their best life.

Online therapy is effective for seniors because it provides all the benefits of in person therapy while meeting from the privacy of your own home. In my experience, meeting from your own private space helps to build rapport and get into the “work” of therapy more quickly, as it is easier to achieve comfort in a familiar space. Online therapy eliminates barriers to attendance such as mobility or transportation concerns. It addresses concern around the stigma of walking into a therapist’s office. It also allows for therapy to take place in a more efficient manner – there is no concerns about having to set aside 2-3 hours for an appointment, as you only have to log on for the 50 minutes of the appointment and can forget any concern about the time involved in the commute to and from therapy or any traffic concerns.

I obtained my MSW from Binghamton University in 2008 and have spent the last 16 years providing client centered psychotherapy in a number of settings. I have worked in crisis centers, domestic violence shelters, psychiatric emergency rooms, primary care offices, inpatient units, prisons, community mental health centers, rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities. I have provided online treatment for both mental health and substance use disorders. I have helped people navigate everything from minor adjustments, relationships struggles, and emotional dysregulation to major losses, functional changes and end of life issues.

My approach to therapy is client centered, focused on helping you to build, return to or maintain your best life. I work from a trauma informed, strengths-based perspective that recognizes you as the expert on you, while also providing support and skill building to assist in navigating your current challenges. I tend to be collaborative and conversational in my approach, covering the necessary material by making it part of the natural flow in session rather than providing a more directive, authority-based approach. I focus on process as much as product in session and check in often to make sure you feel that you are getting what you need out of therapy.
