The rules that matter in 2026

Your home is a covered location, permanently. For behavioral and mental health, Medicare beneficiaries can receive telehealth at home with no geographic restrictions. You do not need to live in a rural area or travel to a clinic (Telehealth.HHS.gov).

Phone-only sessions are permanently covered. If your provider is capable of video but you can't use it or don't consent to it, two-way audio-only sessions are a covered behavioral health benefit, critical for the many older adults without smartphones, webcams, or reliable internet.

No in-person visit is required first.
