What makes you enjoy working with seniors? I find great fulfillment in connecting with older adults and hearing about the rich experiences and life stories they've accumulated. Their perspectives offer a unique window into a lifetime of change, resilience, and wisdom.
I especially enjoy helping them navigate challenges in late life, such as grief, medication management, and loneliness. Being able to provide support during this stage of their lives, when many are facing transitions, is deeply meaningful to me. The sense of purpose and satisfaction that comes from helping them improve their quality of life is what drives me in my work.
Why do you think online therapy is effective for seniors? Online therapy can be an excellent resource for older adults, especially when mobility or access to in-person services is limited. It allows them to engage in therapy from the comfort and familiarity of their own home, which can be less intimidating than a traditional office setting.
Online therapy also offers flexibility in scheduling, which can be important for individuals managing health concerns or other life demands. Additionally, for older adults who may have difficulty with transportation or live in more rural areas, online therapy ensures they still have access to professional support, which is vital for maintaining mental health How do you approach therapy sessions? This is your life and your session; my role is to facilitate rather than dictate.
Whether we apply several approaches or focus on a single one, the therapeutic process will be customized to meet your unique needs. I utilize a blend of fundamental counseling skills, such as empathy and active listening, along with established counseling theories like Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to facilitate your change. What is your advice to someone who is starting therapy for the first time?
I would ask them to be honest and open. The therapist is not there to judge.
