Q&A with Bill

Getting to know Bill

What do you enjoy most about working with older adults?

As I have reached middle age myself, I have become so much more aware of how much knowledge and life experience an elderly person has to offer. They are fountains of wealth to share, and that can be turned into wisdom. Wisdom can be then used to bring about change and understanding in their own life.

Why does online therapy work well for older adults?

Well, I think convenience is ultimately the thing that makes it effective. As we age, it gets more difficult physically or logistically to get around to any type of appointment. This makes it as easy as getting out of bed and setting at the computer.

How do you approach therapy sessions?

As a practicing master's degree-level mental health and addiction counselor, I am dedicated to providing compassionate and effective care to individuals navigating their unique challenges. Licensed by the state of Ohio, I offer a welcoming environment where clients can feel safe to explore a wide range of issues, from addiction and depression to anxiety and anger management. My approach is rooted in empathy and understanding, ensuring that each person work with feels accepted and supported throughout their therapeutic journey. I believe that the key to successful counseling begins with a non-judgmental attitude, allowing clients to express themselves freely and openly.

I recognize that every individual is different, and therefore, I am committed to tailoring my therapeutic approach to meet the specific needs of each client. While I often begin with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as a foundational method, I remain flexible and responsive to the evolving requirements of our sessions. If I determine that additional therapeutic modalities could enhance your progress, will seamlessly integrate those techniques into our work together. My goal is to empower you in your healing process, fostering a sense of agency and collaboration that encourages you to actively engage in your own growth.

Throughout my practice, have developed a strong skill set in areas such as behavior modification and various mental health concerns. My experience allows me to guide clients through their struggles while equipping them with the tools necessary for lasting change. Ultimately, my aim is for you to leave each session feeling heard, validated, and equipped to tackle the challenges ahead. If you believe I could be a good match for your counseling needs, I encourage you to reach out soon. Together, we can embark on a path toward positive transformation and well-being.

What inspired you to become a therapist?

Family members with substance and mental health issues. I was also working at children services at the time that I became interested in counseling. I wanted to better understand what the clients were dealing with and how I could support them in the treatment of it.

What is your advice for someone starting therapy for the first time?

Just show up and be ready to work. You can't treat it like your faking working out at the gym. You know the person who goes and spends the whole time standing around and talking to others. They don't actually do anything, but they can tell everyone that they go 5 times a week.

What do you wish people knew about therapy?

It's not like on TV. There is no couch, and Freud is dead. We won't be blaming your parents or someone else. I describe it as mildly fun chitchat. It's like being at the water cooler, but not leaving for an hour.

Outside the sessionA fun fact about Bill

I got into the profession to make sure that I was properly diagnosed and I know for certain that God has a sense of humor. How? Just ask anyone who has multiple birth(twins) children.
